The Vega Entrance Challenge
What do I want to do and which career path am I best-equipped to follow?
For most young people, leaving school and about to embark on tertiary education, the big question is: What do I want to do and which career path am I best-equipped to follow?
A small minority of school-leavers have the answer to that - most of them have some idea - and may even have had a Career Assessment done at some stage, but all of them are looking for guidance.
The 3-hour Vega Entrance Challenge is completed by all applicants, for any one of the full time courses offered by Vega. It is not a test or exam, and answers cannot be "right" or "wrong" - we hope that our candidates have fun doing it! What it does do, in conjunction with their documentation, interview & portfolio, is help us to assess whether they are applying for the right course, or whether they should be redirected to an alternative.
When a candidate comes in to do the Challenge, they should bring with them:
- The completed Vega Application Form
- Certified copies of their ID and latest Matric / undergrad results.
- Two letters of reference - from teachers or mentors.
What Happens After the Vega Entrance Challenge Has Been Completed?
Once the Challenge has been assessed, along with the documents and Application Form, the candidate will be called in for a personal interview. If applying for the BA in Creative Brand Communications, they will be expected to bring along a portfolio of work. This can be school artworks, or photographs of large work - anything that will give us some idea of the capabilities and area/s of interest.
If the applicant does not have examples of creative work, but still wishes to do the Creative Degree programme, Vega can assist in setting creative challenges for the applicant to submit.
Should the candidate be applying for the new BA Degree in Brand Building & Management, they need not have done art at all, but must have good results for Maths and other subjects such as History, Science, etc.
NB: Registration for any Degree programme requires a Senior Certificate, with endorsement or exemption from endorsement, or equivalent qualification.
