Brand Challenge

Students from both the strategic and creative degree are put into teams and required to come up with solutions for real 'brand challenges'.

Every year our second and third year students work on briefs from clients in industry, corporate and government. Students from both the strategic and creative degree are put into teams and required to come up with solutions for real 'brand challenges'. In the past clients such as Discovery, MNet, Protea Hotels and more recently the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund have been involved and have actually implemented the solutions presented. This in conjunction with Vega's internship programme for students into industry and corporate ensures that Vega students enter a career with relevant learnings and experience.

The Brand Challenges run every year for a month from the client briefing to the final Client presentation. In this time the students from across the second, third and honours year (incorporating all disciplines; strategy, brand management, copywriting, multimedia design, art direction and graphic design) work in teams to fulfill a 'brand challenge'.

From an academic point of view the Brand Challenges are selected to ensure that the following learning outcomes are possible while allowing presenting students with the opportunity to investigate a real world brand problem from a zero base, to develop and execute a meaningful creative solution.

The brand challenge outcomes are to:
  • explore, assess and define the brand situation from a zero base
  • identify key brand issues
  • develop accountable objectives
  • identify and develop holistic target market and audience profiles
  • develop a relevant, differentiated and focused brand positioning platform
  • clearly define the brand communications message
  • develop a meaningful creative concept
  • develop and creatively execute relevant and innovative brand contact solutions
  • function as a professional and productive team member
  • develop and present relevant and engaging arguments
