World Design Capital 2014

Joining hands with every Capetonian, we're brimming with pride & joy because of our mother city who has been honoured with the title of World Design Capital 2014.
World Design Capital is an award created around eight years ago by prominent international design forum ICSID. Previous winners have been Torino, Seoul and Helsinki.
What this award means for Cape town (and by extension South Africa) is very briefly as follows - list inspired by
this article -#1 Boost to Cape town's economy by local government to invest in better architecture, smarter infrastructure and contemporary solutions such as green areas in the city bowl, cycle tracks, walking paths, safe areas and culture hubs. Secondly, the expected increase in tourism
-#2 Attention from the global creative community in the form of movies, music, advertising, conferences. An award like this plays a big part in influencing decisions about where to host world class functions.
-#3 Marketing for the city in the form of an increasing appearance in global media.
-#4 Focus on creative solutions that bring us together, facilitate positive change and ultimately profit society and business.
