BA Honours in Brand Leadership (part-time)


Details:

(18 MONTHS PART-TIME)

The honours qualification develops a communicator who has the understanding and skill to launch, lead and manage brands that create successful businesses. 

The BA Honours in Brand Leadership presents an integrated and process-oriented curriculum with real-life application. The programme engages leading brand perspectives and models that focus on building and sustaining value and competitive advantage.

It has two areas of application or specialisation, namely:
  • Brand Management and Leadership (offered at Vega Johannesburg only); and
  • Brand Communications and Leadership (offered at all four Vega campuses)


Entry criteria: 
  • Appropriate Bachelors degree or National diploma, "old" NQF 6, 360 credits or appropriate equivalent
  • Applicants will be required to complete an entrance challenge, 1 000 word essay and an interview 



Breakdown:

MODULE 1: BRAND AND BRAND BUILDING
This module focuses on the context of the brand and the core components of brand building. Brand identity, architecture, equity and contact integration are investigated, and a diverse range of industry guests present current brand realities.

MODULE 2: ALCHEMY
Alchemy explores and integrates creative development, critical thinking and argument development. Alchemy creates innovative problem solvers who investigate relevant issues, adding new and provocative thoughts to brand strategy and communications. Students develop a mini-thesis and creative activation in answer to their Alchemy process.

MODULE 3: SPECIALISATION
This module enables students to apply their special interests to develop creative and strategic skills in their chosen area of brand leadership. Students gain insight into the process of accountable, innovative and sustainable brand management or communication strategy development. 

BRAND MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
Brand management is dealt with from a holistic perspective, where the integration of traditional topics with responsible humanitarian thinking is used to facilitate strategic thinking, planning and implementation required in a rapidly evolving brand environment. Branding is examined within the domains of economics, financial analyses and management, ethics and corporate social responsibility, information technology, communication planning, law and brand management, to develop the ability to adopt a design thinking approach to current brand scenarios and management challenges. 

Real-life brand challenges are undertaken in simulated brand teams, and the module culminates in a four-week industry internship.

BRAND COMMUNICATIONS AND LEADERSHIP
The Brand Communications and Leadership module explores the nature of creative and strategic thinking, as well as the development of innovative and accountable brand communications strategies. Students engage with various strategic models, a myriad of brand communication channels and best-practice presentations from local and global brand leaders and organisations.

Real-life brand challenges are undertaken in simulated brand teams and the module culminates in a four-week industry internship.
