Black and White Photography


Details:

The artistic and expressive opportunities available in black and white photography are unparalleled. Students are introduced to the complete world of monochrome techniques from digital to the classic art of darkroom work. On this course you will be shown how to capture and print superior black and white images. You will also be taught how to sepia and blue tone both digitally and with chemicals.



Breakdown:

Lesson 1
How black and white medium depicts colour 
Managing contrast at time of exposure (digital and film) 
Types of films and developers 
Capturing and converting in RAW

Lesson 2
The negative 
How to develop film (practical demonstration) 
How to make a print in the darkroom (practical demonstration)

Lesson 3
Using Adobe Photoshop for the perfect black and white digital image (tricks and tips) 
Digital toning 
Chemical toning 
Digital printing on classic paper
Archival printing and presentation

Lessons 4 & 5
On completion of the course students are given the opportunity to work under supervision in the darkroom and on the digital workstation to apply what has been learned
