The Principles of Strategic Thinking

Details:

The Principles of Strategic Thinking aims to improve the quality of the student’s thinking and the ability to innovate and strategise in a brand building context. This course focuses on new brand paradigm thinking and is based on the concept of strategic and holistic thinking. Students are introduced to the definition and theories of strategy. The term strategic conceptual thinking is explored by introducing students to the nature, forms and elements of logical thinking and argumentation.

The innovation economy, which is bombarded with media clutter, audience fragmentation and message dilution, is introduced. Emphasis is placed on the relevance of brand ideas that are distinct and resonate with a changing stakeholder. Furthermore, the course focuses on forward thinking as well as proactive and strategic innovative thinking, and provides an overview of the theoretical and practical elements linked to these areas.

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of strategic conceptual thinking in the innovation economy
  • Demonstrate the ability to use strategic thinking as a tool for developing strategic innovation and creating brand ideas within the South African business environment
  • Apply independent analytical and creative processes for brand leverage
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the ten faces of innovation and providing a brand solution
