Top Achiever Transforms Passion Into Professional Success
From excelling in the classroom to earning recognition in South Africa’s marketing industry, The Vega School at Emeris Pretoria Class of 2025 Top Achiever Chanté Fourie (IIE Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Brand Communication) graduated with an average of 86%, a Pencil Award (for graduating with an average of 75% or above) and a Gold Assegai Award in 2025 for her “My Tiny Office” project. Chanté is proof that passion and strategy go hand in hand.
“It feels kind of crazy, but it feels right. When I started at The Vega School at Emeris Pretoria in 2023, I already knew about the Pencil Awards and from day one I quietly made it my mission to earn one. That’s something very core to who I am - once I decide I want something, I commit to it fully”, said Fourie.
“I think that same mindset is what makes me such a strong strategist. I genuinely love digging for perspectives other people might overlook, and I’m stubborn in the best way when it comes to finding a unique insight. The more challenging or restrictive a brief is, the more excited I get because constraints force creativity, and that’s where the magic usually happens”, she continued.
Nestus Bredenhann (Brand Communications Lecturer The Vega School at Emeris Pretoria) encourages Fourie to keep that spark alive: "From year one, Chanté stood out. Whether taking the lead on challenging group projects or spearheading creative concepts, she consistently delivered focused, professional and inspired work while staying grounded in the lecture room community. She has a natural gift for leadership and a knack for making a meaningful difference wherever she goes. Now working at Ogilvy, Chanté is already making waves and proving her impact”.
She transformed talent and passion into professional success. As she continues building her career in brand strategy, Fourie hopes to inspire students to embrace creativity, resilience and not to perform for the sake of marks but constantly refining something you genuinely care about.
“I wanted my work to stand out, not by ignoring constraints, but by using them intelligently to produce stronger thinking. Strategy is what informs creative work. So, if I want to see bold, boundary pushing execution in the industry, it has to start with the thinking behind it. That meant I had to hold myself to a high standard, because I wasn’t just studying the discipline, I was practicing the way I want to show up in the industry”.
Her journey serves as a reminder that academic dedication and industry passion can open doors to remarkable opportunities. “Throughout my studies at The Vega School at Emeris Pretoria, I approached every project like it was a real industry brief from an actual client. My focus was always: does this idea hold up in the market? Could this actually be implemented beyond the classroom? That was my benchmark for excellence”.
Fourie said that a big part of her motivation came from the fact that she didn’t feel like she was simply studying to get a degree, she felt like she was developing a core part of who she is.
“Winning a prestigious industry award at this stage of my life feels like a really important early validation, not just of my work, but of the way I think. It tells me that I’m on the right path, and that my strategic approach has real-world relevance beyond the lecture room”, she said.
Fourie encourages students who want to stand out academically and professionally.
“Stay grounded in the fundamentals of your discipline. Whether you’re studying strategy, design or copywriting you need to understand the principles first before you can meaningfully “break” them. Real creative strength comes from knowing the rules well enough that you can push against them with intention, not guesswork”.
Fourie is a Brand Strategist for Ogilvy and is shaping early brand experiences in a way that feels positive, thoughtful and lasting.
