Maliya is a Junior Art Director at Ogilvy Cape Town where most of her work falls under generating innovative ideas for their clients and bringing these ideas to life through visual communication. Her day-to-day involves rolling out artworks that are part of existing campaigns, coming up with concepts that make brands matter, art directing scripts, supporting her seniors and according to her, “Having lots of fun.” She’s challenged herself to bring a broad perspective to the table and be true to herself. In the short time she has been in the industry she has already worked on briefs for clients like VW, Unilever, Rape Crisis, Joko and many more, where she takes a human-centric approach every time. One of her projects for OMO, The Book of Dirt won a Silver Loerie in 2018. So far she has found her IIE BA in Digital Design at Vega to be only the beginning of her lifelong passion for learning. Within Ogilvy, she also initiated an internal sanitary towel campaign called #BloodyHell and in 1 month 8 548 pads were collected, meaning 34 young girls no longer had to miss school because of menstruation. Beyond the skills she learnt at IIE Vega, she was also empowered with the tenacity and endurance needed to succeed in the working world. It has allowed her to take on any challenge that comes her way and follow through with it. She recommends her degree because it equips you with the tools you need “to come up with breakthrough solutions that make a sustainable difference.”
*Maliya graduated with an IIE BA in Creative Brand Communication. As of 2018, the three streams that used to be offered on this degree will be offered as standalone degrees in Graphic Design, Copywriting and Digital Design.
