As a Social Media Associate Intern, you will play a vital role in promoting our mission and expanding our reach.
Your Role:
Content creation and curation
- Craft compelling and creative content for our social media platforms: LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok (account to be created).
- Curate relevant industry news, success stories, and thought leadership articles to share with our audience.
- Monitor comments, messages, and mentions on our social channels.
- Engage with our community, respond to inquiries, and foster meaningful conversations.
Website updates
- Update and maintain our website’s content
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communication Lead to create informative and engaging blog posts
Analytics and Reporting
- Utilize analytical tools to track our online presence.
- Compile monthly reports on key metrics, such as engagement rates, website traffic, and follower growth.
Blue Economy Trends
- Stay informed about trends in Africa and in the blue economy, sustainability practices, and ocean health.
- Use this knowledge to inform our social media content
Event Promotion
- Support marketing and communication efforts for our events and programs
- Create event announcements, promotional materials, and engaging content.
Design and video editing
- Enhance our visual content using tools like
Canva Pro.
- Edit short videos for social media sharing
Collaboration
- Work closely with other team members to align messaging 3
- Update and expand the list of African and Global media contacts and influencers to collaborate with

Job specifications: OHA is looking for a Social Media Intern to:
- Maintain the leadership position of OHA in its ecosystem as more ocean hubs emerge
- Provide support to the Marketing & Communication Lead in upholding a strong online presence and overall brand
- Develop overall awareness and attraction to OHA’s activities and company as a whole
- You are passionate about the ocean and its Blue Economy
- You understand the importance of clear and strong marketing and branding for an impact organisation You are business-driven, a strategic thinker with strong entrepreneurial spirit Then we want you!
Skills and experience:
- Bachelor of Marketing, Communication, Journalism and Media or any other relevant fields
- Experience in/exposure to digital marketing platforms such as Canva, Video Editing Software, Word Press etc.
- Experience in executing communication plans and content scheduling
- Excellent coordination and communication skills to drive communication and marketing strategies
- Interest in startups, innovation, impact-driven technologies, the Blue Economy and the overall ocean space
- Intrinsic motivation and passion for personal skill development
- Experience working with (or openness to learn) our team’s software stack: Slack, Google Suite, Notion, Zoom, etc
- Entrepreneurial mindset
- Well-organized and structure in daily work
The following conditions apply:
- From 1 June, 2024 to 1 Dec , 2024 - some flexibility on dates but must be for a period of 5 months or more.
- Full time - 40h/week: 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, 1h lunch break
- 1 paid leave per month in addition to public holidays (following the official South African calendar) – based on the above start and end dates.
- Office address: The V&A Waterfront, Cape Town 8001.
- A computer and a mobile phone are necessary but not provided. Internet connection when working remotely is a necessary requirement on the staff's own account.
- Monthly compensation 4,500.00 - 6,500 ZAR
