From pebble painting and caricatures to one on one chats with Lecturers and Student Advisers, Grade 12 learners across the country were given an inside look at life after matric during IIE-Vega’s recent Vega Day (Open Day).
Held at IIE-Vega campuses in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria, Vega Day gave prospective students a chance to experience the creative, hands on campus culture first hand. Learners attended information sessions led by Lecturers from study areas such as Brand Management, Brand Communication, Communication Design, Digital Marketing, Interior Design, Game Design and Experience Design available at Vega, an educational brand of the Independent Institute of Education (The IIE).
For Curro Salt Rock Grade 12 learner Arya Singh, who has already applied to study IIE Bachelor of Communication Design at IIE-Vega Durban in 2026, the day helped confirm her decision.
“I really love the campus vibe at IIE-Vega Durban. I’ve visited before and had my interview with a Student Adviser - coming back for Vega Day just made me even more sure that this is the place for me”.
Durban Girls’ High School Grade 12 learners Kendell Deysel, Jessica Welsh and Sia Jamnadas said they left feeling inspired after hearing about IIE-Vega Brand Challenge - an opportunity for IIE-Vega final year students to collaborate in national multidisciplinary teams to develop solutions to ‘real world’ brand challenges briefed by industry partners. Deysel and Jamnadas are interested in the IIE Bachelor of Commerce in Digital Marketing degree, while Welsh is leaning towards IIE Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design.
At the Pretoria campus, Hoërskool Hugenote Grade 12 learners Sharne and Bernadine Barnard said it was the welcoming atmosphere that stood out most.
As part of Vega Day, each campus also offered a chance to win a R35 000 bursary - adding even more excitement to a day focused on futures in creativity, strategy and innovation.
St Cyprian’s School Grade 12 learner Lyia Hendrickse said she was over the moon after winning the IIE-Vega Cape Town bursary.
“I’m still processing the news, but I’m so happy and very thankful. I want to study towards the IIE Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Brand Communication at IIE-Vega Cape Town. I’ve had a passion for business since Grade 8 - it’s one of my matric subjects, and I find it fascinating. I hope to be a Marketing Director one day,” said Hendrickse, who is looking forward to meeting new people, learning about branding and communications and stepping into the real world at IIE-Vega Cape Town in 2026.
Other bursary winners include Liyema Bingwa from St Mary’s Diocesan for Girls (DSG) (IIE-Vega Durban), Yashil Ramsanker from Trinity Little Falls (IIE-Vega Johannesburg) and Monique Geldenhuys from Hoërskool Oos-Moot (IIE-Vega Pretoria).
